The SCCC recognized the need and the importance of having relationships with all the cycling clubs in the Niagara Region and created the Niagara Cycling Clubs Alliance (NCCA) http://stcatharinescc.ca/ncca/ . The NCCA is composed of the St. Catharines Cycling Club, Amici per la Vita Niagara Cycling Club, Niagara Freewheelers Bicycle Touring Club, Forza Niagara Cycling Club, Energy Cycling Club, Bikefit Sunflowers Cycling Club and the Short Hills Cycling Club, to promote our passion, the sport of cycling. The total NCCA rider membership exceeds 1,000 athletes.
The member clubs are all incorporated, nonprofit and insured athletic clubs and welcome new members of all riding abilities. The NCCA meets regularly to address mutual concerns and ideas about cycling in the Niagara Region.
An idea from one such meeting led to the NCCA’s first joint venture, the Canada’s 150 Birthday Ride to be held on July 2nd, 2017. The venue for the Canada’s 150 Birthday Ride Celebrations will be at the White Meadow Farms, 2519 Effingham St, Pelham and the ride’s route will be a scenic, winding and rolling route through the vineyards and orchards of the Town of Pelham and vicinity.
The Canada’s 150 Birthday Ride will roll out at 8:30 a.m. and depending on the distance selected by the participant, finish at 11:30 a.m. A BBQ feast and of course a huge birthday cake will reward all the riders and nonriders upon completion. At this point the Canada 150 Birthday Ride is a nonalcohol event, however, a local vineyard / winery winetasting is open for discussion.
There will be a nominal rider / nonrider participant fee to help offset the costs of the event, which marketed to the general public and most important, all ages, and all level of cycling abilities. In short, the Canada 150 Birthday Ride is a Family Event! The NCCA anticipates 500 riders will celebrate our nation’s 150th Birthday.
It is emphasized, this is an insured nonprofit event, that is a Ride and NOT a race, on “open to traffic roads” in the Town of Pelham and all related festivities will take place on the private property of White Meadow Farms, 2519 Effingham St, Pelham.
The NCCA is also looking forward to involvement in the Canada Summer Games’ cycling component hopefully to be held in the Niagara Region. The NCCA’s peloton of volunteers stands ready to be deployed to support the Canada Summer Games.
